Accessibility Statement

The standard being worked to is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and where practical the newer 2.2 criteria. Conformance is a goal that is being worked toward, not a state I am claiming to have reached. Parts of the site will not meet it yet.

• Every menu, form, map control, photo browser and link is designed to be operated from the keyboard, and this is checked before each release.
• Focus is always visible, with a gold focus ring that meets the contrast requirement.
• Headings are real headings in order, so a screen reader can be used to move through a page by structure.
• Photographs carry written alt text describing the place; images that are purely decorative are hidden from screen readers rather than described.
• Every form field has a label attached to it, errors are described in words next to the field, and no error is signalled by colour alone.
• Animation and slide-in motion is switched off automatically when your device is set to reduce motion.
• The Area Explorer map has a list view beside it holding the same places, with the same names and details, as a full text alternative to the map.
• Nothing on this site plays sound automatically, and nothing flashes.

There is a small settings panel built into this site — not a third-party accessibility widget — with four controls: text size (up to 150%), motion (follow your device, reduced, or full), contrast (default or high), and link underlines (always on). Changes apply immediately and are remembered in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere, no cookie is set, and nothing about you is detected.

You can open it from the “Display settings” link in the footer of every page, from the link that appears at the very top of the page when you first press Tab, or right here: Display settings.

The map tiles behind the Area Explorer come from a third party (Esri ArcGIS Online) and their imagery is not something I can add text to — the list view exists for that reason. The two downloadable guides are PDFs; they are readable, but they have not been fully tagged for screen readers yet.

The video tour on the 4933 Township Rd 164 listing does not yet have captions or a transcript; a written description is provided beneath it while captions are produced.

Automated checks are run on every page; the last full manual check was on 8 September 2026.

An independent accessibility audit has not been carried out. When one is, the date and the findings will be published here.
